The internationally acclaimed Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch will be given a dedicated, permanent performance venue at the Pina Bausch Centre. This will allow the ensemble and its artistic director to strike new paths. Alongside maintaining its repertoire, the Tanztheater Wuppertal will develop a modern profile and work in varying formats with interesting artists from other disciplines who, like Pina Bausch, stand for change and for challenging boundaries. At the Pina Bausch Centre the company’s reorientation and opening will be given space and time, allowing developments which will lead the Tanztheater Wuppertal into a new era.
In the twenty-first century the Tanztheater Wuppertal’s programme will strike a balance between presenting its repertoire of works by Pina Bausch and the newest developments in the performing arts. To enlarge both its artistic spectrum and the interest of audiences at the same time, the company will engage in cross-genre co-operations with artists from other disciplines. To this end, the globally acclaimed ensemble will exploit its close connections to artists from areas including dance, film and architecture throughout the world.
Alongside the cooperations with the other institutions to be situated in the Pina Bausch Centre and with sociocultural partners will come changing collaborations with practioners of dance and other arts, with cities and festivals in various countries. Thus, for instance, a major festival could become a partner, presenting its own programme in Wuppertal as well as collaborating on and coproducing a piece with the company. The existing partnerships with centres of dance throughout the world will become visible in Wuppertal, and exciting new artistic ideas from every continent will find their ideal technical and spatial conditions.
The Pina Bausch Centre will mark the start of a new era for the Tanztheater Wuppertal and provide a leading example of the lively, imaginative way an artistic legacy can be passed on.
