The German Dance Prize is considered the most prestigious prize for dance in Germany and has been awarded annually since 1983 at a festive awards ceremony followed by a dance gala at the Aalto Theatre in Essen.
The Kultursalon was held at PACT Zollverein: During a festive reception, visitors could learn more about this year's award winners Malou Airaudo, Josephine Ann Endicott, Dominique Mercy and Lutz Förster as well as the honourees Sophia Neises (honour for outstanding development in dance) and Peter Appel (honour for his life's work). In addition, a restaging of the piece "Der zweite Frühling" by Pina Bausch was performed.
