OPEN CALL: FRAGILE – International Festival for Young DanceMusicTheatre

From September 20 to October 1, 2023, FRAGILE – the International Festival for Young DanceMusicTheatre, will be held for the first time in Wuppertal. The festival will take place at the Pina Bausch Centre and funded by the Zero programme of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (German Federal Cultural Foundation). Funded by the Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media).

Climate-neutral forms of production and new aesthetics for ecological sustainability will be explored.

We are searching for seven exciting productions with concepts for sustainable DanceMusicTheatre performances involving young people. How did the production phases incorporate social, ecological, and economic aspects?

National and international initiatives, producers and artists are invited to present their productions. Network, exchange and initiative: How can the stage become a field of experimentation on the topic of sustainability? What unique power does dance possess in cultivating global empathy? Can we organise international productions more sustainably? How can actions of solidarity in the arts be brought into focus? What new narratives, spaces, materials, and modes of production can be developed in terms of energy, mobility, food, and forms of collaboration, and communication? We need swarm intelligence!

Participants are ideally tandems of art and ecology or climate initiatives, and have worked with young people in different production stages. We are searching for productions that reach a young audience both indoors or outdoors.

Applications may be submitted in English or German to fragile@pina-bausch.de until 24.03.2023. Decisions will be made by a panel of experts by May 31, 2023.

Concepts should include a short project description (2 pages) outlining the unique sustainability concept, as well as budget, CVs of project organisers, list of all individuals involved in the project, video links, and technical information / Techrider.
